As we go from place to place, sometimes we end up in people’s way. Today I was listening to sermons written by Wendell Winkler and Marshall Keeble that were preached by Dan Winkler and Eric Owens. They were both great and powerful Gospel sermons preached by two excellent proclaimer of God’s word, but I have wondered if some put the person above the message. I know for a fact that neither of these men put themselves above the message (Dan actually commented on this in another lesson he did at Polishing the Pulpit). The issue that I have been reflecting on is do I put myself in front of what I teach and am supposed to live out.
Through studying, I am seeing the importance of saying what needs to be said and then getting out of the way to let God do His work. Just like Paul said of Corinth, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. It is important for us to plant and water, but ultimately it is God who gives the increase.
