I read an article recently that interpreted some information from a gallop poll looking at the number of people who believed in creation or evolution and what they identified themselves as religiously. The results were that about a third of people polled stated that they believed in the evolutionary model of how man came to be. The poll then continued and found that many of the people claimed that they were Christians religiously. The biggest issue that I have with this is that we are letting the Bible get watered down by saying that God created the earth over millions of years through evolution.
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” No Christian will deny this, to do this is to deny the trustworthiness of the Bible. The Bible states that God made the earth in 6 days and rested on the seventh. If we do not hold to this model, we are putting God in a weaker state than he is shown to be. The reason that the people who are against God are happy with this is that we are taking power that God has. I have heard the arguments against God, but they all seem to fall short. I have heard the arguments against God creating the universe, but again, it comes short. I have also heard some of the compromising arguments that try to take both sides of the creation of the universe, i.e. there are two creations in Genesis. This too is faulty. Hebrew writing would finish the first story and then go back and explain what all else happened in the middle and this is what Genesis 2 is doing after Genesis 1.
We cannot compromise the word of God in order to “make peace” as some argue. God created the earth fully formed and fully grown. We cannot let the “evidence” posed against God to sway us from Him.
