In 1 John 3:1-3 we can see what it means to be a child of God. The first thing that we see here is that God loves us. He has lived us since before we were born. He loved us to the point that he was willing to bail us out. We were guilty, but God paid the bail. The wages of sin is death, but Jesus paid the price. Jesus our Lord and savior paid it all, now all to him I owe.
Thanks to this payment, we have received a promise. The promise that we will see him as he is. This will occur on Judgement Day, but we do not know when this will be. What a day that will be though, when our savior we shall see. We shall not see him as with our human eyes, but we will see him as he is in spirit.
There is an aspect that we must uphold though, we must purify ourselves. We are no longer attached to this world, rather this world is not our home. Because of the fact that we are God’s people who were bought at a price, our bodies are not our own but God’s. We have put off the old body of sin and have put on this new body of righteousness. Shall we continue to sin so that the grace of God may abound? Certainly not! We are called the church, and we must live up to that name. Church comes from the Greek word εκκλησία (ekklesia) meaning called out. Since we were called out of the world, we must live like we have been.
