In life there are many times that we encounter new challenges, beginnings, and people. In these situations, there are many things that we cannot control. We cannot control if we will overcome the situation, we cannot control if we will start off well, and we cannot control the person’s reaction to meeting us. There is one thing that we can control however. That is our attitude. No matter the situation, we can control how we will take the difficulties and successes that life brings to us. As a follower of Christ we need to be able to take everything well because of how Christ himself took everything.
When Jesus was faced with the moneychangers in the temple, he was furious. Jesus ran the people who were defaming the temple out of it and did not look back on it. When we stand up for the truth, we should do so righteously and without sinning like Jesus did. Paul writes in Ephesians 4:6 that we are to be angry and sin not. The problem that many face is that they allow their anger to drive them into the hands of the devil. That is why Paul told the Ephesians that they needed to be angry without sinning.
Another situation that Jesus faced was all of the times that he was recognized. Jesus wanted to be baptized by John, but John told him that he needed Jesus to baptize him instead. Jesus then explained the purpose of the baptism to John and he did it. Jesus was humble when his fame was pointed out. Jesus was recognized by the people who needed help from him and helped them in more ways than they expected. He would heal and forgive them. Jesus was humble and giving and we need to follow that example. When we do something great, we need to point the attention to the ones who made something happen, because there are almost always people who made something possible. When we are approached for help, we should be willing to go as far as we can to help others out.
Jesus also faced persecution and death with dignity and pride. Jesus did not want to be tortured (see the gospel accounts), but he faced his accusers and was willing to do his Father’s will. We need to be willing to obey the Father no matter the costs. In Luke 6 we can see Jesus discussing what happens when we do not live of the world; we will be sons of the Most High.
No matter what we face, if we go in with a good attitude and a focus on God, we will be more than conquerors.
