I have a box in my house. Inside that box is a ring that is made of gold and has several stones in it. The ring is from the inline hockey team that I was a part of my sophomore year of college winning the NCRHA Division One National Tournament. There are a lot of memories tied to that ring and I am sure it is worth a fair amount of money. There is a good likelihood of you having a box in your house with something similar (wedding ring, family ring, high school class ring, etc.), but what is that ultimately worth? When you are no longer on this earth what will happen to that ring? Will your kids or grandkids inherit it and take care of it? Will they sell it and it go to someone else?
1 Peter 1:17-19 tells us of something that will last longer than that ring. Peter tells us that we were slaves to sin, but we were ransomed out of that slavery. We had that debt that we could never pay paid by the precious blood of Christ. The issue with the things on this earth are that they are temporary. Gold and silver will pass away or rust or get lost. Friends will pass and family will go as well. What we need to be focused on are the things that will last forever. Your ring can be changed or destroyed, but your soul will go on for eternity. We are told that where our treasures are laid up, there are soul is as well. Are you focused on this earth, where your body breaks, your treasures break and are stolen, and your friends and family are just as temporary as you? Are you focused on eternity and your home for your soul?

John,
Great thought! Thanks
