There are really only two things that I distinctly remember from my trip to London back in 2011. The first is a picture that I had my brother take outside the palace where there were two canons that were strategically placed to be my biceps.
The other is the trip back. I don’t remember the whole flight, but I do remember landing in a lightning storm in Charlotte and then being told that the flight back to Nashville was delayed until further notice. My brother and I were desperate to get home so we rented a car and drove the 530 miles to get from the airport back home.
We were so desperate to get back home that it did not matter that we were on a plane for twelve hours, that we were out of our time zone and thus jetlagged, or that there would likely be traffic in Knoxville and Nashville on the way home. We were determined to be back in our own beds that night.
As Christians, we are determined to get home (Heaven), but we often see the daunting tasks of this life and let them get in our way. We need to be determined to get home and not let anyone or anything stop us. We must be like Paul said in Phil. 3:14 and “press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” In fact, when Paul penned his famous quote of Philippians 4:13, he was not talking about doing great things in this life, but suffering for the life that he is promised after this one.
When we face our hardships, when we go through great times that we wish would never end, or when we feel like we will never again see the light, that is when we need to turn to God. We must be desperate to make it to our home.
