What have you been up to in the last few weeks? Have you spent time on projects around the house? Have you taken up some new hobbies? Have you started to work on reading the books that you said you would read but never had time for? When we go through something like this it can wear people down. There are many things that we may think we need to do, but we never do them. One thing that we should never forget to do is to pray. Prayer is a key part of being a Christian because it is how we communicate with God. There are many prayers that we can read about in the Old and New Testament and we should take a look at one to see how things should be going for us when things are not as great as we would like them.
In Psalm 5 we have a psalm of David where he is talking about his prayers to God. There are many of the psalms that talk about prayer, but one of the interesting things about this psalm is how it addresses David’s belief in the prayers that he offered to God. He begins in the first three verses asking God to hear him. He then talks about God in the next three verses about his justice and how he takes care of those who stand against his people. David spends the rest of the psalm speaking about the fact that God will take care of his enemies and he should rejoice in taking refuge in God. In these twelve verses, we see David and his belief that God would take care of him even when his enemies seemed to be winning. There are several other psalms that show this same message, but this one keeps a focus on how God is a deliverer of his people.
When we pray for people or ourselves, we need to remember that God will take care of his people in this life and in the life to come. Our prayers should be a way for us to keep close to God when we start to feel distant. Our prayers should show our remembrance of God when things are not the way that we want them to be. Now would be a great time to figure out how to work prayer into your life even more than you had previously.
